What is Employee Engagement?

Employee Engagement is the level of individual involvement & investment an employee has in his or her work.

A fast developing assemblage of research shows that employee engagement is a colossal mover of essential measurements like retention and revenue. This is the reason senior administrators and CEOs are clamoring to get a grip and procure the bottom line rewards of employee engagement to the association.

ABSTRACT
We, at 3EA, assisted a Leading Geotechnical Instrument Exporter/ Manufacturer/ Supplier by prescribing a procedure to comprehend their employees's investment & involvement which they needed to enhance working relationships within the organization. The employee engagement survey, organized by our team of professional HR & data analysts, demonstrated that empowering positive correspondence & communication between parts of the association is the way to making enhanced working connections among different divisions.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY-
Data Collection Methods & Tools

  • Primary Data Collection: -
    The Employee Engagement Survey was administered to 56 employees of the organization on 3 days viz. a viz., on February 7, 8 & 9, 2018.

  • Questionnaire Method: -
    We designed a questionnaire of 20 employee engagement survey questions, including-

    • Engagement Index Questions
    • L.E.A.D Questions
    • Free Text Questions

    For all of our questions (except free-text only responses), we used a 4-point Likert Scale that measures agreement to a statement.
    We chose from a scale of agreement with the following 4 options:

    1. Strongly Agree
    2. Agree
    3. Disagree
    4. Strongly Disagree
  • Tools Used: -

    • MS Excel 2016 for Data Understanding, Cleaning, Preparing, Analysis & making Dashboards
    • IBM SPSS 20 for Data Analysis
    • Power BI Desktop for Data Visualization
  • Data Analysis: -

    • With the help of Excel, I performed Likert Scale Analysis.
    • With the help of SPSS, I performed the Engagement Index Questions & L.E.A.D Questions Analysis

KEY FINDINGS

Likert Scale Analysis

'Engagement Index Questions' comprised of the following 5 questions-

  1. 1."I am proud to work for [Company]" -

    • Benchmark Scores- 80-90% agreement

    • This question had 91% (68% Strongly Agree & 23% Agree) agreement, which is quite high.

    • It reflects favorable levels of Brand & Mission Association as viewed by employee internally.

  2. "I would recommend [Company] as a great place to work" -

    • Benchmark Scores- 80-90% agreement
    • This question had 84% (57% Strongly Agree & 27% Agree) agreement.
    • It indicates that people really like the experience of working at their company.
  3. "I rarely think about looking for a job at another company" -

    • Benchmark Scores- 55-60% agreement
    • This question had 64% (36% Strongly Agree & 28% Agree) agreement.
    • It indicates that people are engaged at work & looking for a job somewhere else hasn't crossed their minds.
  4. "I see myself still working at [company] in two years' time"-

    • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
    • This question had 80% (68% Strongly Agree & 12% Agree) agreement.
    • It indicates that you can discount concerns about retention.
  5. "[Company] motivates me to go beyond what I would in a similar role elsewhere" -

    • Benchmark Scores- 70-75% agreement
    • This question had 87% (39% Strongly Agree & 48% Agree) agreement.
    • It reflects that your company is motivating people to do their very best.
    • Here we can see that % of people agreeing is more than that of strongly agreeing.

'L.E.A.D Questions' comprised of the following components-

  • 'Leadership Questions' -
    1. "The leaders at [company] keep people informed about what is happening"
      • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
      • This question had 73% (34% Strongly Agree & 39% Agree) agreement.
      • It reflects that the leaders of your company is communicating with people motivating them to do their very best.
      • Here we can see that percentage of people agreeing is more than that of strongly agreeing.
    2. "My manager is a great role model for employees" -
      • Benchmark Scores- 70-80% agreement
      • This question had 82% (55% Strongly Agree & 27% Agree) agreement.
      • Upholding high scores necessitates you to look at what you're doing fine and how that can be persistent and perhaps scaled up over time.
    3. "The leaders at [Company] have communicated a vision that motivates me"
      • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
      • This question had 76% (46% Strongly Agree & 30% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that people feel informed about what is happening leading to motivation, or a connection to something bigger than people's day-to-day work.
  • 'Enablement Questions' -
    1. "I have access to the things I need to do my job well"
      • Benchmark Scores- 75-85% agreement
      • This question had 89% (41% Strongly Agree & 48% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that people have the day-to-day things they need to do their work and develop.
      • Here we can see that % of people agreeing is more than that of strongly agreeing.
    2. "I have access to the learning and development I need to do my job well"
      • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
      • This question had 87% (53% Strongly Agree & 34% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates there is ample scope for learning and development opportunities in your company for the employees.
    3. "Most of the systems and processes here support us getting our work done effectively"
      • Benchmark Scores- 55-75% agreement
      • This question had 79% (34% Strongly Agree & 45% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that most of the systems & processes in your company do support the employees in getting work done efficiently.
  • 'Alignment Questions' -
    1. "I know what I need to do to be successful in my role"
      • Benchmark Scores- 80-90% agreement
      • This question had 93% (73% Strongly Agree & 20% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that most of the employees in your company know what they need to do to be personally successful.
    2. "I receive appropriate recognition when I do good work"
      • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
      • This question had 80% (39% Strongly Agree & 41% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that most of the employees in your company appropriately recognized for their achievements.
      • Here we can see that percentage of people agreeing is more than that of strongly agreeing.
    3. "Day-to-day decisions here demonstrate that quality and improvement are top priorities"
      • Benchmark Scores- 60-70% agreement
      • This question had 84% (45% Strongly Agree & 39% Agree) agreement.
      • It is an indicator of high-performing, financially successful company.
  • 'Development Questions' -
    1. "My manager (or someone in management) has shown a genuine interest in my career aspirations"
      • Benchmark Scores- 65-75% agreement
      • This question had 75% (36% Strongly Agree & 39% Agree) agreement.
      • It reflects that the employees feel like they can develop at the company down the line
    2. "I believe there are good career opportunities for me at this company"
      • Benchmark Scores- 60-70% agreement
      • This question had 86% (57% Strongly Agree & 29% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that the employees feel there are good career opportunities for them & they're more engaged at work.
    3. "This is a great company for me to make a contribution to my development"
      • Benchmark Scores- 70-80% agreement
      • This question had 93% (61% Strongly Agree & 32% Agree) agreement.
      • It indicates that the company is making a contribution to your development in your craft or industry.

CONCLUSION

The HR and the management of the organization learnt that their areas of expertise ought to be recognized and upgraded. These key findings from the employee engagement study were ardently welcomed by HR and management. They promptly started working at expanding cross skilling and joint effort among divisions.
